The history of Sulcis Iglesiente is inextricably linked to mining activity. Rosas (Sardinia, Italy) is one of the many mines in the region that, following the progressive decline of the industry, ceased operations in the 1980s.
Today, Rosas stands as a site of industrial archaeology and memory, where galleries, washing facilities, and structures preserve the traces of one of the hardest forms of labor in the country’s past.
This photographic work is a journey through places of memory, built around interviews and stories of retired miners — the same “former miners” who are quick to correct that definition, repeating instead: “A miner never ceases to be.”
